Educational
systems which are used so far (late 20th century) were based on memorizing
the giving information, putting your best effort to give the exact answer in
exams that are taught in class and were always forcing students to depend on
their teachers. 21st century learning would help these to resolve
but how exactly?
There are
some researches has been put into work by researchers and educators. They have
found some strategies to be used in order to achieve the needs of this century.
The 4Cs of 21st century are the most popular ones among them. What
are those 4Cs?
1. Critical Thinking
Critical
thinking is all about solving problems and finding solutions. Students are not
content with what they are given to them but are discovering the what’s right
or wrong. Thanks to the internet the possibility of them to do it is even more
likely today. They would be asking the question “Why?” and “How?” rather than “What?”.
More questions asked more solutions to be found!
2. Creativity
Creativity
is to turn what’s on mind to reality. Looking at a problem from different angles
and letting out the free thoughts go around yourself. It’s encouraged that
students think outside of the box. It’s aimed to motivate and support students
to express their opinions and to give them the chance to create resourceful
solutions to problems.
3. Collaboration
Collaboration
is simply to work together. It’s important for students because they’ll be
working others from different cultures and backgrounds in the rest of their
lives. So, learning how to collaborate lead them to being tolerant to other
ideas.
4. Communication
Communication
is to convey ideas and opinions more efficiently and clearly. Time is all we
account for so in that matter we must be very quick and clear when we convey
our messages. It also helps to prevent misunderstandings once we are good at
communication.
