Wiki Wiki, not Tricky!

Image
Taken from this site Hi all! Today's topic is Wiki as you can see but rather than what it is I have focused on how I used it. But if you have no idea about it you can check this site for detailed information. Last week we have been introduced to Wiki and asked to create a wiki page focused on a book review of a book we recommend. I chose Emile Zola's Germinal. Etienne a young man looking for a job for days turns out to be a revelutionist, a leader and someone people look up to. His ambitions, desires and disappointments were deeply examined in the review. In case you want to have a look at the book review I'll leave the link here .  The process of creating a wiki especially if it is about bookreviewing is a tough business. I needed to think about the book first before creating the wiki page. The characters, main idea and the plot was hard to recall so I had to have a quick look at the book. That was, however, very refreshing and good to remember the book agai...

Podcast for Fun? or Teaching?

Image
Today, I will be sharing the process of making my very first podcast experience. Why we did it? What did we decide to do for our first experience? How did we feel about it in the process of planning and producing it? Any difficulties or struggles we encountered? All will be answered in this post. "Simply put, a podcast is talk radio, but on demand." I will not talk about what podcast is and if you don't know what it is you can visit here for detailed information. It all started when our Material Design course instructor assigned us to create a podcast with our peers. When I heard about the term podcast in the class I felt like -I know it already, what's the big deal about it and why on earth we need that practice for? But of course, I had no idea how it could be integrated into learning environment. I didn't know that I could be able to do one by myself and I got nervous as I don't like the sound of my voice, I got even more nervous and I want...

A Teaching with Technology Statement

Image
Technology is an essential tool to facilitate teachers' teaching methods and students' future goals. As a pre-service EFL teacher I will use the most of its benefits to improve their awareness of the technology they are using. Though, technology is not solely enough or an absolute problem-solving tool so that we can use it as a magic stick and problem solved. I think technology is not meant to be used just because it exists, and everyone uses it. Before working on which tools to use, in my opinion, a wide research must be conducted on it and a full-scale planning should be done. I want my students to have an understanding of technology on how to use it for educational purposes. I want my students to develop a good writing skill as they create their blogs freely and not supressed by the classroom atmosphere. I want my students to be creative when they are recording their own podcasts to build up a well-developed speaking skill as well as their listening practices when listenin...

The History of CALL

Image
Today is a special day for technology's development. It was a turning point when "World Wide Web" was first constructed 30 years ago. Thanks to that we have created a very concrete communication systems and we are connected to the whole world. Our main topic, CALL. Computer Assisted Language Learning dates back to when first computers were designed but of course they were built to decode enemy's radio signals and so on. In 1954, B. F. Skinner built Teaching Machine to help students to learn and drill acording to students' level. With positive reinforcements, students success was much more significant. When mainframe computers arose they were in the size of a room and only available in university campuses. Then mini computers and micro compters replaced them in 1970s and 1980s to be the ancestors of today's personal computers. In mid 1980s, Athena Language Learning Project started as a part of some project to find out the role of computers in language l...

21st Century Learning

Image
In 21 st  Century, technology has improved in an unimaginable speed and everything around us adapted so quickly and almost perfectly to it. It has a huge effect on our lives, undoubtedly. All the benefits it provides to us; it also affects educational part of our life. Educators and academics has been working on to prepare students to future and to help them achieve their best, encourage them to attain information by themselves. Educational systems which are used so far (late 20 th century) were based on memorizing the giving information, putting your best effort to give the exact answer in exams that are taught in class and were always forcing students to depend on their teachers. 21 st century learning would help these to resolve but how exactly? There are some researches has been put into work by researchers and educators. They have found some strategies to be used in order to achieve the needs of this century. The 4Cs of 21 st century are the most popular ones amo...
